I have been painting Hudson River landscape views from my window and along the river for a number of years spending a lot of time on the shore of the Hudson River observing people holding their celebrations. Painting on location, my landscapes are a response to the changing light and the activity of people along the river. My painting process demands a certain immediacy, putting them very much “in the moment.” There is a quiet classical balance to these bucolic scenes by the river which belies the urgency and struggle to solidify the image through the physicality of paint.
Aside from the Hudson River views, I paint cityscapes onsite that highlight the architecture and hilly geography of upper Manhattan. I have always been inspired by my immediate surroundings and the desire to draw the veiwers attention to everyday things that are sometimes overlooked.
